My Vision
My wife, Sandra, and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary, December 2006, and we have 3 incredible children, rather, young adults. Since coming from a part Christian and part non-Christian background, I had much to learn through prayer and hard knocks in developing father and son relationships. I know God has been preparing me for His purpose and the Holy Spirit has put on my heart to start a “father and son” type ministry. What I envision is to have a Saturday morning "father and son” breakfast meeting. With a church or churches working together, we would need to have facilities available to make or supply breakfast for fathers and sons around 8:00 or 9:00 am on a Saturday morning. After some fellowship and breakfast, a video will be shown of my racing days on Team Honda. Arrangements could also be made for a local dealer to supply a new racing MX bike for everyone to see. At the conclusion of the video, I will share my testimony of how Jesus Christ absolutely changed my life and relay my message encouraging father and son communication through scripture, as well as exalting the supremacy of Christ. After the meeting I will stay and visit, sign autographs on posters I supply, and just enjoy Christian fellowship. We should be finished by 12:00 noon, so the rest of the day is free for fathers and sons to enjoy each other. I am continually reminded of the last few verses of scripture we find in the Old Testament book of Malachi 4:5-6. Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet…And he will turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, And the hearts of the children to their fathers, Lest I come and strike the earth with a curse. As I view the world, I realize the need to strengthen and heal the bond between fathers and sons has never been greater. Fathers should love their children for who they are, not what they have done, whether it’s good or bad. Fathers who lovingly and gracefully guide and lead their sons by example, not of worldly success, but of Godly moral character, will lead to true success. Sons will follow such a father, because this is the character of our Heavenly Father. We are not loved because of what we are; we are loved because of whose we are. God has also taught me over the years to speak to sons’ lives, to be thankful, to honor and respect their father, as well as to speak the truth in love. As we grow older, sometimes a separation comes, possibly because of a father or son not walking with the Lord. However, I want to encourage those in attendance that we have a promise from God, that He will draw us back together and make us even stronger than before, as our eyes continue to focus on Jesus. If a pastor desires me to stay over and preach in the church pulpit Sunday morning, I would be honored. It is in my heart to affirm pastors and encourage the congregation to reinforce his vision for the church and the city. My gift is to encourage the Christian body and, as God allows, to use that gift for His Glory. God allowed me to be a motorcycle racing champion, but what I desire most is for us all to be Champions for Jesus. |
